Tips to Protect yourself when choosing a Moving Company in Texas

There are a lot of good moving companies in San Antonio. A quick look at Yelp, Home Adviser, and Move corps are sites that show unedited reviews for moving companies. Once you find a favorable company be sure to Google the company's name directly. Make sure you see a lot of stars within other sites in your search results. This shows this company has a strong online presence. This simple search can give you a really good look at a single moving company. The physical location of a moving company is a big plus too.

1) Make sure the moving company is licensed by TX DMV. State of Texas even may act as a liaison if there is a complaint against the moving company. DMV has the power to fine and/or revoke a moving company that is not in compliance.

2) ASK for an estimated confirmation via email or in person. This will help to confirm the correct address and there is usually an hourly rate there in case they come up to the door with higher rates. (Download "Spreedsheet guide to how to compare moving companies")

3) This is the most ignored step. ASK for the contract you will be signing before the day of the move. Most people just sign and don’t read the small or even large print because so much is going on the day of the move. Plus, who is going to turn their movers away on the day of the move when timing is everything? Things to watch out for on contract are….

a) The moving company’s liability and coverage

b) Extra or hidden fees

c) Can a company hold your belongings if you don’t pay.

4) Check BBB to see how well the company follows its promises. Remember BBB only shows you how well a company follows it’s agreement – not how happy the customers are with that agreement.

5) Make sure the moving company gives you, “Your Rights and Responsibilities” brochure or printed out. By law, each moving company is supposed to give you this information. This is a sign that they are ledgit.

In short, ASK for the paperwork! This is the best way to protect yourself and this is the most ignored step that we have seen in this business.
