5 Questions most people don't ask Moving Companies.

Comparing moving companies is not like comparing apples to apples. Not all moving companies are created the same. It's not always enough to just ask for pricing. Here is a list of questions that most people DON'T ask but should when receiving a quote:

Before calling, check to see if the moving company is LICENSED on https://apps.txdmv.gov/apps/mccs/truckstop/ . Type in the company's name, then click on the certificate number and you should see a thumbs up indicating that moving company is licensed and has the minimum insurance. (Type in "Swift Movers LLC" for an example)

1) Ask for a quote in writing: This protects you from hourly rates changing at the spur of the moment. An easy give away is that a reputable moving company will place its DMV number on the quote. (Required by Texas Law)

2) Ask to see the contract that you will be signing the day of the move: It's only fair to be able to have time to read the fine print before the move and not during the move when the mover is there waiting for you to sign. (Again, keep an eye out for the DMV number).

3) Ask, if there will be any extra fees other than the hourly rate.

4) Ask what will happen if something breaks and then ask to see it in writing. (Most agents will book you without even talking about this) Also, the industry standard is 60 cents per pound per article liability.

5) Ask how they train their movers: ( They should be be able to give you a clear method. Generalities and unclear explanations should be a red flag.) This also may give away if they are a brokerage company where they send another moving company that you may know nothing about.

Ask anything you want! Ask if they can move that overly large teddy bear without getting it dirty. Ask if they can move your dresser with the items inside it. You want your expectations to be met so ask away! There are no dumb questions because every moving company can be different and you want to make sure they are going to fit YOUR needs.
